Chris Votek is a versatile cellist who brings a unique flair to collaborative projects across the musical spectrum. He is a student of the legendary Indian violinist Dr. N Rajam and one of the few cellists in the world performing the rare style Gayaki-Ang: vocal style Hindustani Raga.

An in-demand session cellist in Los Angeles, Chris has played on hundreds of recordings, most recently “Across The Oceans” by Iranian singer Mamak Khadem featuring multi-GRAMMY winner Chris Martin. He worked extensively with songwriter Julia Holter , touring for her releases Ekstasis, Loud City Song, and Have You In My Wilderness across 5 continents and played cello on the Grammy® nominated album CINEMA by The Marías.

With a mission to bridge music worldwide, Chris has performed with Iranian singer Homayoun Shajarian, German composer Hauschka, The Silk Road Ensemble, founded by acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma. He is the principal cellist of Nabil Azzam’s Arabic Orchestra MESTO, a member of LA’s chamber orchestra of cultural diversity Bridge to Everywhere, and has performed the music of Sigor Ros and Johnny Greenwood with Wordless Music Orchestra. His list of collaborators continues to expand across different genres to include the eccentric Father John Misty, Jonathan Wilson, Amanda Palmer, genre-bending ensembles WILD UP, FUN, The Dirty Projectors, ambient/electronic projects such as How To Dress Well, LightBath, and many more.
